Description: Designed for beginners and artists returning to the medium, Introduction to Oil Painting provides a strong foundation in the techniques and traditions of classical oil painting. Through guided still life studies, students will learn essential concepts including color mixing, value, composition, brush handling, and proper studio practices while becoming comfortable with the unique qualities of oil paint.

Each class includes demonstrations, individualized instruction, and hands-on painting exercises that build confidence and technical skill in a supportive studio environment. Rooted in traditional fine art education, this course emphasizes observation, craftsmanship, and learning to capture light, form, and color with intention.No previous oil painting experience required.

In this hands-on class, you'll explore graphite, pen and ink, and expressive ink washes while working from carefully arranged natural still lifes and reference photography. Learn the fundamentals of observation, rendering, texture, light, and form as you develop confidence with both pencil and drawing pens. Whether you're new to drawing or looking to strengthen your skills, this class offers a creative and inspiring way to bring nature to life on paper.

Kate is a Greenville, SC based jewelry artist known for transforming nature-inspired sketches into handcrafted fine jewelry. With her BFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the University of Georgia and her MFA in Jewelry and Metalsmithing from the Rhode Island School of Design, she blends traditional techniques with a modern, organic aesthetic.

Perspective Made Simple

Description: It all started during the Renaissance when the techniques of perspective drawing were first developed. If you like to sketch, draw, or paint architecture, this workshop is for you! Vanishing Points, horizon line, eye level, convergence, point of view - it’s all explained and demonstrated to equip even the novice with skills to create dramatic perspective views of simple to complex architecture.

We’ll do two projects: a one-point perspective of an interior and a two-point perspective of architecture. For those experienced in perspective, bring a project you would like to work on and take your skills to the advanced level.

Supplies: Please bring a sketchbook, a variety of Pencils (soft and hard), a black fine-line marker, an eraser, and an 18” Ruler.

Description: Learn to create effective paintings using photographic reference. This instruction will help you learn to avoid common issues and develop your ideas while learning painting principles that apply to all subjects and mediums. Come to class ready to paint from your own reference material. Students bring their own supplies to paint in their chosen medium. The instructor works personally with each student in this self-directed class for intermediate and advanced levels. Students are welcome to sign up for as many classes as they wish!

Description: In this class, we’ll explore the indirect painting process—building your painting in layers to create depth, luminosity, and subtle detail. Working from a photo of your pet or an animal that inspires you, you’ll learn techniques for underpainting, glazing, and creating lifelike textures such as fur and feathers. We’ll discuss color theory, composition, and how to use layering to bring character and emotion to your subject. This class is perfect for artists and beginners alike who want to slow down, refine their technique, and capture an animal's spirit through rich, layered oils.
