Perspective Made Simple

Description: It all started during the Renaissance when the techniques of perspective drawing were first developed. If you like to sketch, draw, or paint architecture, this workshop is for you! Vanishing Points, horizon line, eye level, convergence, point of view - it’s all explained and demonstrated to equip even the novice with skills to create dramatic perspective views of simple to complex architecture.

We’ll do two projects: a one-point perspective of an interior and a two-point perspective of architecture. For those experienced in perspective, bring a project you would like to work on and take your skills to the advanced level.

Supplies: Please bring a sketchbook, a variety of Pencils (soft and hard), a black fine-line marker, an eraser, and an 18” Ruler.

Clothes Mending & Upcycling Workshop

Description:  Do you have a pile of clothes sitting in a mend or donate pile? Let’s give them a second life! Materials will be provided to sew up tears, patch holes, dye something stained, fix buttons, or rework how something fits or looks! 

We will have two sewing machines available for those who would like to try their hand at machine sewing. Students will choose from an assortment of fabrics, patches, buttons, ribbons, elastic, and other notions that may come in handy. This is a great day to learn the basics of a sewing machine, get creative with visible mending, and add personal touches to your closet! 

Everyone will receive a sewing kit and their new upcycled masterpieces to take home; all you need to bring are clothing items that need a revamp! (Knitted and crocheted items or heavy-duty materials like leather are discouraged- mending supplies will be best suited for easy-to-sew fabrics.)

Supplies:  All supplies are provided. You only need to bring your imagination and the clothes you'd like to upcycle!

Custom Greeting Cards with Modern Calligraphy

Description: If you can write in cursive, you can do Modern Calligraphy...and I'll show you how. In this workshop, you'll learn how to modify and transform your natural writing style into beautiful lettering designs. Then we will work on designing a finished Christmas card, wedding invite, thank you, etc. (your choice) with all the embellishments and as good as Hallmark. Instructions on getting it printed. More fun than going online ... and you can say "I did that!"

Paint With Colorful Collage Papers!

Description: Make vibrant paintings with or without a brush! Artists of all skill levels will use inks and acrylics to create beautiful, colorful works of art. The focus is on experimentation, COLOR and DESIGN, in representational or abstract art. Participants will dye and stain art tissue and rice paper to create one-of-a-kind, vibrant papers. Artists will then incorporate these papers into their design or image, sometimes adding surface painting. Uncolored papers may also be collaged to panels, and paint applied later for unique textural effects. The possibilities are endless!

Most papers and materials will be provided and are included in the class fee. Students will purchase a few materials; this list will be provided.

Nuno Felting Table Runner with Silk Fabric

Description: Fiber artist Cecilia Ho will demonstrate how to combine Merino wool and decorative silk fabric together to make a seamless piece of wool felted table runner using the Nuno Felting Technique. The result of this nuno felted fabric will create an interesting bubble texture after additional fulling and extra shocking phases. All basic felting materials and supplies are included. No experience required. Please bring an old beach towel. Open to ages 14 to adults.

Description:  From Sacred to Stunning: Each culture from around the world seems to have developed its own signature geometry. From the Celtic Knots of Ireland to the Octagonal Designs of Middle Eastern tiles. The designs of the Aztecs, the Amish, and Indian cultures each have unique geometric styles.

Using only the classic geometer’s tools of compass and straightedge, we will explore fascinating geometric constructions found in cultures throughout the world. Based on the golden section and nature’s elegant proportions, you’ll create traditional precision geometric art as well as inventions of your own. By embellishing your creations with colored pencils and watercolors, you will develop a portfolio of geometric art that showcases the beauty and elegance of Cultural Geometry.

Supplies:  Fine Line Black Marker, Pencil, Eraser, Assorted Colored Pencils, Colored Markers, and/or Watercolors w/ Brushes, Compass (Staedtler Comfort 4-piece metal recommended).

Tiny Origami Books

Description: Learn how to create simple to complex books from a single sheet of paper. Using Origami folding techniques, you will make the “Pants” book, Modular book, “W” book, and the Exploding Book.

These are fully functioning, bound books with separate covers and your own creative embellishments. Techniques are very simple but loads of fun! No previous Origami experience necessary.

Supplies: All supplies are included! Just bring your imagination!

Eco Printing & Natural Dyes

Description: We will cover the basics of eco printing using plant matter & powders that produce natural dyes. Step by step, we will cover how to prepare cellulose- and protein-based fibers (cotton and silk) for best color retention. Each student will create and take home their own design on pieces of fabric using materials provided by the instructor. This class is for beginners in dyeing with natural materials who want to experiment with the variety of colors that plants can yield. Many of the materials we will use are already in your kitchen or garden!
